Same-Day Medical Equipment Delivery in the Chicago Suburbs

The most stressful call we get sounds like this: "Mom is being discharged this afternoon and the hospital says she needs a hospital bed and a wheelchair before she can come home. Can you help?"
Yes. Same-day delivery of home medical equipment is the core of what we do across DuPage, Cook, and Will counties. But same-day only works when a few things line up. Here's exactly how it works so you can make it happen.
What "same-day" actually requires
- 1. We have the equipment in stock. Standard hospital beds, manual wheelchairs, walkers, rollators, commodes, and patient lifts are almost always available for same-day delivery from our Downers Grove warehouse. Specialty items — bariatric beds, custom wheelchairs, specific oxygen setups — may need a day.
- 2. The paperwork exists. For Medicare or insurance-billed equipment, we need a physician's order. For private-pay rentals, we don't — we can deliver immediately.
- 3. Your home is within our same-day zone. Roughly a 30-mile radius of Downers Grove: Naperville, Lisle, Woodridge, Westmont, Oak Brook, Hinsdale, Lombard, Glen Ellyn, Wheaton, Bolingbrook, Darien, Burr Ridge, Elmhurst, Aurora, Oak Park, and most of the western and southwestern suburbs. Call us for anything outside that and we'll tell you honestly whether it's same-day or next-day.
The discharge-day playbook
If you know a discharge is coming, do this:
The day before (or as early as possible): • Ask the discharge planner or case manager exactly which equipment the doctor is ordering and ask them to send the order to us. Our fax and phone are on our contact page page. • Call us at (630) 929-0745 with the patient's insurance information. We'll verify coverage immediately. • Tell us the delivery address and any access issues: stairs, narrow doorways, no elevator, gated community.
Morning of discharge: • Confirm with us that the order came through and what time delivery is scheduled. We aim to have the bed set up before the patient arrives home. • Clear the room. Move the existing bed out or decide where the hospital bed goes.
At delivery: • Our technician assembles the bed, attaches rails, positions it with access on both sides, tests the controls, and shows the caregiver how to use everything. Same for lifts — we size the sling and train the caregiver on a transfer.
If you don't have a doctor's order yet
You have two options. First, we can contact the physician's office and request it — this is often faster than families trying to do it themselves, because we know exactly what Medicare needs on the order. Second, if time is critical, you can rent privately today and we'll pursue insurance reimbursement afterward where possible. We'll tell you the private-pay cost up front so you can decide.
What can't be delivered same-day
Honesty matters here. Oxygen typically requires a qualifying blood-oxygen test on file and a specific physician order, so it's rarely a true walk-in same-day item unless the hospital sends the documentation ahead. Power wheelchairs and scooters require an in-person evaluation and prior authorization that takes weeks, not hours. CPAP machines require a sleep study and a prescription. For all of these, call us as early as possible and we'll get the process started.
Delivery costs
Insurance-covered equipment: delivery and setup are included. Private-pay local delivery within 30 miles: $25 for items under 30 lbs, $50 for heavier items like beds and lifts. Retail orders over $129.99 ship free within the continental US.
After-hours and emergencies
Equipment doesn't fail on a schedule. If an oxygen concentrator, ventilator, or enteral pump stops working after hours, call our main number — a team member responds 24/7. For routine repairs and wheelchair accessories, our repair and rental services page has the request form.

Discharge day is chaotic. Nurses are reviewing medications, the case manager is arranging follow-ups, and somewhere in the middle someone mentions that Dad will need a walker, a shower chair, and probably a hospital bed.
